Hoist~~~~
"........Yeah George, but what does it all really mean to the average Joe?......" "........So I wouldn't worry about these subtle differences in P/N's. They basically have no impact on you......." Hoist~~~ well for one thing most that come here aren't "average" lol they have spent a lot of money on their bikes.....so that's not the average buyer.....although most of us FXR2, FXR3, and FXR4 owners aren't even close to what you touring bike owners spend to own a CVO bike.
Why would you state that the p/n's have no impact on George....
isn't that stating sort of the "obvious" [not trying to be mean at all or stupid...lol] I mean his bike is a 1999 of course none of the above changes affect him, the point I was making with the above information is that yes there were changes from 1994 through 1999 and 1999 is the year of George's bike just as it is for anyone coming here as a CVO owner except of course for the 2000 FXR4....and I believe there were no changes for 2000 thus George would not be missing anything from the evo engine as an improvement and thus have no impact on him.
<~~~this sounds bad doesn't it, I don't mean it to sound as rude as it sounds lol... However, I didn't ask why George was interested in the question to begin with, this is true........so I sort of went off on my own tangent....lol.....but actually I have been interested in learning about the differences that were done to the evo engine from 1994 for the last FXR production bike until 1999 when the FXR CVO bikes were built.....so in part I was addressing a generic question of George's and I was also attempting to highlight the changes from 1994 through 1999 for the power plant that is in our bike as well as any other main differences......
And I still believe....although I may be a singular voice here that it's interesting to note the changes in the gearing between the 1994 FXR's and the CVO FXR's. There was even different gearing in the 1993 FXR's that was still a third choice they featured 3.37 final gearing......which is significantly lower gearing for such a lite bike....
To the reverse of this point....there is enough supporting evidence that would indeed support that Harley does not always make "positive" improvements each year to their bikes...as an example to this end, there are many that would state that the best year for a twin cam and for a touring bike with a twin cam might actually be 2002. There are a lot of years between 2002 and 2009. So my interest was to in a way understand if anything that was indeed done to the "power plant" [if anything] was a positive or a negative to the evo performance with what we have in our "CVO" FXR's and of course as CVO owners we FXR owners are the only one concerned with this information.
I fully realize however your point...and everything you said above is also quite accurate of course.....if there is a major change often times part numbers get completely changed.....but given the "simplicity" of the EVO and that it had already been produced for 10 years by 1994 the likely hood that HD was going to spend huge amounts of money to redesign the evo with "major" changes would be unlikely and for the most part the above information confirms that as well.....
Ok I am
this to death....LOL
and I am
myself here too....lol
Taking a deep breath.......
