Japanese Sportster Rear Sprocket.
« on: July 21, 2015, 08:59:43 AM »

Ok so I have been told this is an easy mod and will help tons in lugging and make 6th gear actually usable.  But for the life of me I cannot seem to locate this part!!  What was the actual model name of this bike?  And does anyone have a source for this sprocket, part number, etc...?
Thank you
Glen

The alternative is to get Big Twin pulley with less teeth. Shims can be added between the pull and wheel or you can get the machined for proper alignment. This of course will move the axle back towards the end of its adjustment.  It may require a shorter belt if you can't get the proper belt tension. Hope this helps.

Sorry my thinking was wrong. If you wanted lower gearing you need a larger pulley this means a longer belt with more teeth.

Absolutely correct.  The '07 was severely overgeared, and the complaints prompted a change in '09.  In '08 they added the rear wheel isolator (cush drive).  IMHO they should have gone even further, but at least the 68 tooth sprocket eliminated most of the complaints.  I would have chosen a 70 tooth myself, but for some unknown reason Harley didn't ask my opinion. :nixweiss:

I have felt the difference as for a very short ride the dealer had installed Evo Industries 30t sprocket on the motor with no comp. Above 50mph vibrations were not good and worse at 65 dropped into 6th and rigtht back out. Went back and had the very first revision of the comp assembly installed vibration gone. Obviously they need the comp assembly. So I still may do it one day.
