  • Life's a journey, why not enjoy the ride?

Since this is a reverse of Rider Down, seems it should be here.....feel free to move it D00derator. Damn bad publicity for our side of the table as we fight getting crushed by cagers.  :nixweiss:

NOVATO -- A father and daughter were seriously injured Wednesday night when a motorcycle driver allegedly failed to stop at an intersection and hit them, according to police.

A 41-year-old Novato man and his 9-year-old daughter were walking in a crosswalk at the intersection of San Carlos Way and San Marin Drive at about 8:45 p.m., when they were hit by a Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Novato resident Edward Schaefer, according to the Novato Police Department.

The father was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with major injuries, according to police, and his daughter was taken to Children's Hospital of Oakland in critical condition.

Police reported that Schaefer, 43, who was taken to Marin General Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury.

Witnesses told police that Schaefer was traveling at high speed when the collision occurred and did not stop at the intersection stop sign

Yeah, I saw this last night on the CH 7 news at 11pm. I was going to post it last night but CH 7's written story (following the video) was terrible. Apparently this guys blew thru the stop sign at a high rate of speed and didn't even see the father and daughter. One of the neighbors said she heard him approaching the stop sign and thought to herself that he wouldn't be able to stop. Another witness was at the stop sign waiting for the 2 to walk across the street in front of him when the motorcyclist passed around him without slowing down and slammed into the 2.

What a FU#%ING idiot. He barely gets hurt and the father and daughter are hospitalized. Hope they recover...

That really makes a bad statement  for riders, I really don't know what else to say, most riders are guilty of riding after a few beers, but you need to pay attention to what you are doing because someone is going to pay the price for stupidity, my heart goes out to the family

He already had a felony "driving under the influence causing injury" is a felony now, in Cali.  Now the girl passed and with MADD hard at work.....he'll get the full extent of the law.  He'll be taking a vacation for a number of years....as he should.

Ya know, it's been about five or six years since I've met and started riding with members of this forum and I've put thousands of miles down with a large number of members of this forum and have attended many of the GTGs that these members do.  I've been impressed that just about every member I've rode with has enough sense to not mix alcohol with motorcycling and as soon as the first one is tipped the bikes are parked for the evening.  I think that goes a long way towards the fact that as large of a gathering as some are and all the thousands of miles we all put down.....we've never had an accident with our members.  I say "thank you" to all those that do drink when you're not riding! :2vrolijk_21:   Let's hope we can keep this record for many years to come.

This is a sad story to read!!!! I feel so sorry for the Father and young Daughter that has passed. We all need to be careful of the cages but equally so of being aware of our surroundings.

Me too - I kind of avoid reading the usual rider down topic, because I find it hard to deal with such tragedy.  :(
