Looking for opinions/advice on the Harley 113 set up.
« on: July 27, 2009, 09:26:12 PM »

I'm looking to do some engine mods to my 09 FLHX in the near future and am split between going with a 103 set up or 113. I've not heard good things about the 110s so I haven't even really considered that. I was wondering if anyone has run the SE 113 set up and if so how they liked it. I think the 103 wouls be an impovement over the 96 but I also thing it won't quite be worth the money and effort when compared with the 113. Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated.

I have a SE 103 with SE 4.060 cylinders. That is a 113. I have had no problems with the motor so far. If I had to do it all over again I would go the same route.

The 113 is a good number but use aftermarket reverse dome pistons that match the head chamber for shape, and the SE110 heads lightly modified. The S&S 585 would be my choice for most riders, much bigger and then you have lost the value of the big motor the low end torque.

If you run your bike without getting too overloaded, a good 103 with head work will be a good choice. If you ride 2-up and loaded down, a 113 would also be a great choice. Stick with Torque, and light head work, and you won't be disappointed. I like these combos,  with reasonable stroke, the motors last a long time and still make good power.
It boils down to the type of riding you do, and where you ride. Build the motor to your style, and let the dyno queens do their thing in the shop!! JMHO

I have a 2002 Road Kong that I just bumped from a 96 (first upgrade from 88) to a 113. I’m running Branch heads, Screaming Eagle .625 cam shafts (made by Competition Cams) with estimate 10.25/1 compression as we had to custom machine the pistons to work with the kidney combustion chambers on the Branch heads, Crane ignition and RB 2 inch LSR exhaust. The bike is a hoot to ride, you’ll love the 113.

On the 103 platform a 4.00 cylinder = 110 and the 4.60 cylinder = the 113. Either upgrade you’ll have to split the case and bore it to except the new jugs. So if your going to that extreme why not a 113.

Check these guys out (http://www.nrhsperformance.com/ekittc.shtml) they have twin cam kits from 110 –124ci.

Good Luck,

Sorry dude, 4.06" and a 4-3/8" bore is 113"! ;)

If you already have a 110, it's not worth boring the cases for just 3" gain in displacement. Fix the 110 properly with REAL parts. If going from a 96" and are boring cases anyway, the sky's the limit!!! ;)
