Cruise Control/Blips
« on: July 12, 2009, 06:16:06 AM »

My cruise is acting funny.

Riding down the road 55 w/ cruise on, and all of a sudden the bike bogged down green light still on.
Reset cruise a few times....same thing.
Then with the cruise on but not engaged....it started to engage all by itself.

Dangerous.. you bet!

Anybody have similar incidents like this? Any suggestions?

I understand it's warranty and that's fine. But if I can fix the problem that's fine too.

About all you can easily check is the speed control switches.  Pinched and shorted wires, moisture, a defective switch, etc. can cause what you described.  Until you figure it out, I don't think I'd be riding around with the main cruise control switch in the ON position.  Having the cruise kick out by itself is one thing, but having it engage or try to run away on it's own is definitely not good.

It is not just the new design on your tbw because it happened on my '07 cuse last year.  Never repeated so have no idea what the f*** caused it.  Had problems with the cc on my '99 the entire 7 years I had it.  In shop way too many times to recall, module replaced three times I can recall along with other things.  Never did resolve the dang thing.

Personally I think they are possessed because they do weird things on their own volition and naturally cannot get to repeat the failure for the service guys.  Funny that the cheapest cars have had cc that worked fine for years but the moco just can't seem to figure it out.

Yeah, that's kinda what I figured. Not too interested in chasing wires.
I do chit like that, then the dealers end up blaming you for the malfunction.

There problem for a couple years.
That cruise control will get you spoiled quick. I use it all the time.

I had similar problems and dealer fixed it.  It was disengaging, engaging, and accellerating all by itself.  Dealer said switch was shorted out, replaced it, the problem has not returned.

Good luck, and leave the cruise switch off unless you are using the cruise!

Oddly enough, every once in a while, my cruise will not engage.  Usually, after I've been using it for a few miles and disengage it, it won't re-engage.

I have to turn off the "cruise" rocker switch on the dash, wait a few minutes and turn the rocker switch back on.  Apparently, it resets the system, because the cruise control will start working normally again.

It's happened thrice in 4k miles.  Of course, it's an intermittent problem, so I've not even taken it to the dealer yet.

Dealer replaced the switch, as stated above it was shorting out.

Back to normal.
