Can you go completely wireless?
« on: April 26, 2010, 04:56:05 PM »

When I went to J&M I had asked if there was a good wireless solution that would allow the following into a helmet:
1. music form HD HK unit
2. gps
3. intercom
4. cell phone

I was told the better solution was using the HD intercom and cb modules, a J&M controller and a blue tooth enabled cell phone and gps. He felt bluetooth was inferior compared to a wired connection  from helmet to bike due to charging and sound quality.  I was a bit bummed since my goal was to get rid of the tether between myself and the bike.

Is anyone using a wireless setup that would like to tell us about it?  Hopefully a few of you Ultra guys will jump in since my road glide doesn't have any of the goodies he proposed.

You can with the Platinum plus. Have them myself and they work great. Anything Bluetooth will communicate wirelessly with the headsets.

each and every one of those items ist listed as "for select (brand) receivers" - and none of them is listed for Harman-Kardon.

Harman-Kardon states their own bluetooth-transmitter will not work with the "H-D Advanced Audio System".

Yes you can, I do not know who you spoke with at J&M but they show one on there web site. It's the Dongle that plugs into your radio, the dongle it self goes into your lower fairing and transmits to your bluetooth helmet. You are suppose to be able to use everything that you use thru a teathered headset.. The big thing is the whole system including the headset will run you about, are you setting down? $700.00. If they would get that price down some I'm sure alot more people would be interested in it. I know they have it because I spoke with them about it interfearing with my harmon kardon bluetooth phone. They said it would not.

Kraut
Go to J&Ms web page look in the top right hand corner and you will see where you can download there parts book from a pdf. Once you have downloaded this, scroll all the way down until you see the bluetooth logo. In the pictures to the right on this page you will see pictures of the dongle on a Honda and Harley. The dongle is a plug and play and  you mount it in your lower fairing, you must have the J&M wireless helmet headsets in order for it to work. You will be able to hear everything just as if you were still hooked up by a cord. It's suppose to have a 30 hour batterey life. It's still way to expensive for my blood at this time. The dongle is like over 300.00 dollars and that does not include a headset.

The dongle is $349.00 then you have to buy the hookup for your radio which is another $40.00, then you choose the bluetooth headset for your helmet.
Dongle part number JBLU-DNG03
Wireing harness part number JBLU-DNG03-CA07
This is for the rider only, it will not do a passenger
Of course if you had my wife on the back this would not be a bad thing.(joke)

sorry, just returned from Greece and was offline for a month.

For the backseater a auto-responder "sorry cannot understand you, please try again later" seems to be sufficient  ;)

But it's a lot of money for a 90 % solution indeed  ;)
