Unless they have changed in the last year or so, Whistler was always at the bottom of the list of quality and accuracy.

A friend of mine just did his first (registered) Iron Butt, with one, told me it was Great, and saved him several times.

The big problem that I can see is that it is discontinued :nixweiss:

My suggestion is to go with a Valentine 1 instead. proven performance.  I have one in each vehichle and I am really happy with it.

Remembered seeing it mentioned before.  Only found two threads showing installed units.  Thought there was a third but couldn't find more than these two.

What you suggest is not waterproof.......If I was just looking for the best overall radar detector it would be between that and an Escort.

Same results I got Don............ neither one talks about overall performance of the unit--except for the one person that said it sucked and that was 8 years ago. I like it better than the Adaptiv since it is not mounted on the bars and there is nothing to remove when you leave the bike, but I would hate doing all that work if it really does suck....discontinued status is not helping

One of those two threads included a guy who was in the business of selling radar detectors.  He didn't speak kindly of it even when the unit was relatively new and still contemporary.  With all the technological differences in scanning technology that can happen in just a few years if this unit was poor or only barely good enough then it's hard to imagine it being competitive to current systems now.

Sometimes a good deal is just a place to waste money and a Saturday for install time...  :drink: :huepfenlol2:

I took my Escort 9500 and made it water resistant.  I wish I taken picture but did not. I essentially sealed mine with RTV. I used release agent around the couple of buttons as well as the lens and case and made a mold of them with RTV so that it would be sealed. It really wasn't difficult. I used a water tight 3.5mm plug that I have wired in to my audio system through one of the Zumo 665 plugs but you could also just encase it in RTV if you wanted. It works well.

To test it was water tight, I sank it in my 3' deep fish tank for about 10 minutes and then placed in a 5 gallon Homer bucket and shot it with water. I took it back apart and all was dry.

Can't speak for the Whistler but I used the Adaptiv on my last bike for 2 years. It did work well but with laser and instant on radar it's really more of a gadget than a tool. I even had the audio plumbed into my headset. The one occasion it could have saved me a ticket it didn't. Or better said I didn't react fast enough. I'm on a country two lane road approaching a gradual left hand sweeping turn. Speed limit is 55 and I'm tooling along at 70. I see a car rounding the bend coming at me. About 1 second later my alarm goes off and 1 second after that I see the state trooper behind him. Game over.
The way I see it riding is already sensory overload. Between the noise and constantly scanning for threats that little flashing light or beep in the headset just doesn't get your attention on a bike like it does in a car. For me the concentration required to maybe have it prove useful was a distraction from other more important things. When I sold the the bike I let it go too.
