The only provenance the bike has is that it was issued as a Indiana State Police bike in 35...Some old boy bought it and tried to make it look like a UL (more modern at the time) this around 45-47..It was parked in 53 in a barn where it sat until the last owner bought it in 90...I picked it up in 02,  I have photos somewhere of the other art on it, mermaids on the tank, vamps in blonde and brunette on the side fenders.  I imagine whoever owned ran strong and wild with all the mud that was packed around it...The dissassembly took over a month.

HD does not keep records not the IDSP, too bad.  we'll just start a new riding it weekly...100% resto.

Aww Howie, at least it is "High Compression Sport Solo"...74 cubes, 4 gear cams sloshing, oil spewing, springer, hardtailed mayhem...

I wish I could have done something with the side hack...Anybody need a 35 side hack frame in tough shape?

Man, that's some seat! Great to see old bikes being saved. Do you ride it at all, how does it ride/run?

It is just finishing its 3 year refurbishment...It is going to Davenport Iowa for the Blachawk National AMCA show before I start riding it regulalrly, not that ridden bikes are judged more harshly, we'll see how it does.  I can't wait to take it out a long ride and to start visiting the local AMCA guys with it.  They ride regularly and sometimes quite far.  I may ride to the "Sunshine" event the week before Daytona in lovely Eustis Florida to vie for the category of "most miles traveled" to attned award...we'll see.  Last year it was over 175 miles on a pretty old Triumph, modern compared to this one.

That was "Buddie"seat on it, quite comfy actually but not stock to this particular VLD model and meant for two!

I had it running before the restoration for a little while, it sloshed, bucked and spewed smoke.  After much deliberation we decided to fully restore the oldster versus the 'rustration" that Dale Walkster does at his "Wheels throuh Time" museum up in MVNC, a must visit if you are in the Maggie Valley area...All his machine sputter and slosh, all of them.  It is heart warming and a real hoot to ride them, everyone should have one if they have the means.
