I have a 2008 FLHTCUSE3 and was wondering what backrest upgrade options are available before I upgrade the whole seat. :-[

I didn't like the backrest on my 06 either, but I have to have a backrest.  I tried every position and even turned it backwards, the bracket, not the rest,  LOL   Even tried bending it a little and drilled a couple of new holes.  Finally I took it to a good ulphosltery shop and he was able to add  about 1" of padding and still use the original material on the front and re-did the back. It's much better now. I think he only charged me $50. I posted some pics when I did it. It's still not a comfy as the large adjustable HD one, but I don't think there is one available for our bikes without custom work or replacing everything, which gets expensive. Considering my total investment, I happy.

Thanks GC.  Based on your report I too had extra padding added to fatten my backrest up and it is much, much better now.   I had to pay 1 hr labor ($65) but we had the backrest off a couple times while we tweaked it to get the amount of padding just right. :2vrolijk_21:

As it is now the adjustment screw which moves the backrest forward is bottomed out. I was wondering if I put a longer adjustment screw in that it might help (move it forward more).

I have an 08 SEUC - I'm with y'all....the backrest stinks.  The driver backrest on my old 02 Ultra was great, but this new one is close to worthless.

As soon as Corbin has the dual tour available for the 08 SEUC, I will be placing my order >> seat & backrest.

I installed the Adjustable Rider Backrest 52473-01A on my 07 SEUC...  I do not know if it will fit an 08, but worked fine on my 07...

Replaced my cheesy backrest on my 08 with a stock EG backrest right out of the catalog.  Much, much better.  Part #52572-03

Hey Scott,
how does the seat come off with this one installed?
is it removable kinda like the stock one?
did you get it recovered to match the fake ostrich?
does it lean back or forward more? or both?

I'm looking for one to be bigger & lean back more than the stock one.
The backrest on my last Ultra was about the same size and got 89K mi of leaned back comfort(unless I got some boobs riding 2-up)... :P

I could no stand the 08 back rest, I took it off and added the hydraulic one that HD sells, I had it on my 05 and just took the seat off removed the mounting brackets and put my new (old one from the 05) on it.  the only trick was that the area where the control for the hydraulic sits between the tank and seat was no where near as easy to install.

Yep, it's removable, much like the stock one...  It's spring-loaded adjustable up and down manually by pushing a button on the back of the backrest.  It is adjustable front to rear via a small pneumatic manual cylinder activated by a handle that mounts on the left upper frame rail, just inside your left inner thigh.  I put a "pillow" seat on my bike, and the backrest is the matching pillow backrest.  It's a real simple install - and very comfortable on a long ride!
