No fast idle on cold start
« on: January 23, 2008, 01:33:09 PM »

Hi,need some help from SERT experts,apologize if this has been covered allready.05 FLSTFSEI now 113" has been dyno tuned and runs super except does not fast idle upon cold start and actually loads up if left to idle,when reving up blows black smoke,when warmed up idles fine,brought it back to tuner,same problem.
Is it ok to go into tables and reduce the amount of fuel in the first 3 or 4 temp areas?Also fast idle is at 1312 but tach shows about 1200,ok to increase to 1400 rpm for initial cold startup?And lastly,will this change any other tuning areas because everything else is great including decel.
Thank you Mike

Mike;
Does the bike idle ok when cold, just rich? Before playing with the map you should have your IAC motor checked. It controls idle and air when the engine is cold.

Have an update to share,have changed all sensors on TB and engine temp sensor in cyl head,still same problem.Going to go into warmup fuel table and yank out 40% of fuel in the first 4 temp tables to see what it does,hopefully it will respond by not loading up.

Well,that didn't work,but I did open the map and took about 30% of fuel out  of the first 4 temp ranges and raised fast idle up another 100 rpm at initial startup,let it sit overnight and fire it up,let it sit and idle until warmed up,rpm fell to about 1k no loading or fouling,looked at plugs,perfectly dry.
