Chrome Fastener Set for SERG --- Torque Settings?
« on: September 10, 2008, 04:49:05 PM »

Here's a question, Gardner-Westcott Company makes Chrome Fastener Kits for HD's and have a kit for the 2009 SERG motor and transmission, Part #P-GW-77A.  It's a couple hundred $$.  This allows you to replace the cadmium nuts & bolds with chrome plated stainless.  Not an ad for them but it's the only one I've seen and the HD dealers stock them.  It's a great detail to finish off the look and better than covers, especially with all the Chrome there already.  Install takes a few hours and some loctite.  Did this to my '04 RG but you need the torque specs for the various applications and a torque wrench, of course.  Anyone know how to get the torque specs?  I have not seen a shop manual offered yet.  Any info would help....  Thanks in advance and also for all the other great information!

Very welcome but don't forget there are different torque settings for the derby cover, Rocker box covers, primary & timer covers, etc.  That's the info I'm looking for.....

Last time I did this, I sat down on a stool w/ a HD mechanic and we did it together over a couple of nights and a couple of beers.  Probably takes about six to eight man hours because it is tedious.  Take a bolt out, inspect and compare to replacement to make sure you're putting in an identical size and thread, then install w/ loctight and torque down.  You have to raise the tank & remove seat to get to the rocker box bolts.  I called my contact at the dealer but no word yet.

I think you'll love the look.... It's a small detail that pops.

A shop manual for a touring model will have the torque values listed.

Exactly what I need, thanks!  I'll ask at the shop.  I don't suppose you got a part number or anything similar?

Just an FYI.  99959-05 is a 1997-2005 torque values reference.  06 and after are year specific.
