Zumo 660 wiring
« on: September 08, 2009, 09:37:11 PM »

Should I wire my 660 direct to the battery and keep it hot all the time? If I wire it to the ignition switch then I will loose power everytime I stop for gas.

For the reason you stated I wired mine directly to the battery.  I previously had the Zumo 550 directly to the battery before getting the 660.

What's wrong w/ that? You won't loose any info (routes etc). It'll boot right up where you left off.

Got to agree with Bungy.  I want as few unswitched accessories as possible.

Leave it on in a bright sun on a hot day the little bugger might overheat just sitting there.  Also lit up and unattended for a bit makes it that much prettier to attract the eye of some dipchit who might choose to quicky make it his own.  If you do wire it direct at least put the inline fuse close to the battery.

Nothing wrong with wiring it directly to the battery. When you shut the bike down the Zumo will ask you if you want to continue on battery power or not. Leave it along and it will shut down by itself in 30 seconds. What's nice about wiring it as an acc. is when you tuen the ignition switch on the Zumo will come on by itself.

If it's wired directly to the battery you will not get that message. You only get that when external power is lost... wired directly to the battery external power will not be lost. I (and I believe most) have wired it into something that is switched to the ignition. If the original posters concern is the time that it takes to power back up I would suggest wiring it to something switched and those times you want it to remain on let it stay on, on its own battery power by hitting "yes" when you get the warning of external power being lost.

Harley, on the CUSE/SESG/SEEG, very considerately provides you with a (ignition) switched power spade connector receptacle inside the fairing.  This connector will be tie-wrapped to the headlight harness.  It provides a great opportunity to power the zumo.  This connector is usually used for the fender tip light as I have been told.

When the ignition is turned off, just press yes, and the zumo will stay on with it's own battery during fill ups.  This also aids in the calculation of stopped time/overall speed...if that matters to you.

Thanks,
I think I will wire it to the headlight harness spade or the acc switch.

I wired mine to the accy switch.  If your harness is like mine, it will be a gray 12 wire connector, the orange is the switched power.

I wired mine to the accy switch.  If your harness is like mine, it will be a gray 12 wire connector, the orange is the switched power.

I formerly had it directly wired to the battary but since I often bluetooth my phone to the zumo, if I go more than 30 feet away I lose the connection and have to turn the Zumo off and on again to get it to sync back to the phone. I don't like pushing the off switch on the zumo and holding it until it shuts down. As a result I connected the zumo to the ignition so it will shut off automatically when I turn the ignition off. It only takes less than a minute for the zumo to boot up again when the motorcycle is turned on.
