I had no choice!
« on: June 08, 2011, 10:35:41 AM »

What would you do?
All of us that don't live close to Metal Dragon in Hayward California have read about how good of a shop Metal Dragon is.
Back in 2005 Jim actually worked on my SEEG and I knew then, this guy is good!
Let's see, 2765 miles is a ways to go to get quality work.
Then last year came the invitation to go to the 2011 Tahoe GTG.
I had no choice. As good as the 2011.5 ran stock it was time for Jim's magic.
And then, I found out who tunes bikes for Jim.
OK, I'm toast, sign me up.
We see this Tahoe trip as a once in a lifetime trip to see our friends out west and make new ones.
The icing on that cake is Metal Dragon.
Thanks Jim, when you want the very best sometimes you have to travel to get there.

So what cams did you put in? How were the dyno results? and Most importantly, how does it run now? You know, the real seat of the pants test.

I just read this over in Jock's thread.

After lunch it was time to head towards Jim’s Metal Dragon to address that “Is that it!” comment I received from that young lady.  When I arrived I was informed that Jim was Dyno-Tuning a bike so I asked if I could use some water to quickly wash a very dirty bike.  While washing it I heard a bike pull up with a great sound to it.  I looked up and it was Jim on SBB’s (Chip’s) bike!  It sounds really good and I was pleased to hear that it was similar to the set up I was having performed.  I do believe that Chip will be pleased with the results.

For me I could have had this work performed by someone on the east coast but why place my baby in someone else’s hands when I was going to be near the “Master”!  Jim was very kind to me and I really appreciate the opportunity to visit and have work performed at his shop.
It was now time for me to head towards the coast so I was off to do so…

To get the best, you have to go to the best.

Jim refers to it as the JC mod only because I was the one that blindly trusted Jim to go with his recommendation....one that he'd not done before and my 10 SESG was the guiena pig.  Since then, many of the Nor Cal members and several So Cal members (yes, they come from So Cal to Jim's also) have the same set up.

And I think there's been a couple come out that reflect a bit higher peak numbers.

18 months into it, I'm still very happy with it and often have people asking me "what modifications have you done to that thing you pulled away from me running up that hill like you were going down hill".

Curious if you used their litters and your thoughts.. I tried their race version and they were way too noisy, ended up with a set of Black Ops which helped but still not happy

I first met this guy in 1980...31 years ago - long before his days as a tuner at RC Cycles in Hayward.  He had just won the SCCA Formula Ford National Championship and we had just won the SCCA GT1 National Championship!  He was the best at what he did then, and he is the best at what he does now!   :2vrolijk_21:
