Power for charging devices
« on: November 06, 2014, 06:35:48 PM »

Since I keep my ipod plugged into the clove box in the fairing I need a way to charge my phone on all day or longer rides. I see I have a few outlets there but they are exposed and provide no easy place to put the iPhone while riding. Was thinking about some sort of high powered battery back up to dump into the saddle bag that could charge multiple phones if necessary. Anyone got one they can recommend or another option?

You could add a 12V power port to the saddlebag.  Harley sells one, or you could go with something similar from any source and wire it however you want.  The one Harley sells is plugged in to the harness for the battery tender and will result in the outlet being hot all the time whenever the harness is plugged into the tender harness.

If you're going to spend a bit more ($100) and get one of the mini chargers that will even jump your car or truck.  Google antigravity battery.   These things are amazing and is on my Christmas list.   Will jump even a V-8 engine while having USB ports to power laptops, cell phones etc.

there are a few companies that make USB power ports. i am using one from Burnsmoto to power my SPOT GPS on a ram mount on the handlebars or the phone. Also 3BR powersports make them also i beleave the one i got used was from them . I dont see why you couldn't run the USB plug into the bags and hook your phone up there. i extended the cord "12in bars" on one of them and to make it so that i hook it up to the battery tender plug when i use it on the ultra. you can get them with the tender plug or battery terminal hook ups. burnsmoto makes and dual usb kit.

I just saw one of these yesterday for the first time. Guy used it to jump start a beefed up v8. I was impressed with it and will be looking for one.

Why not put your music on your phone.  Then you can put it in the glove box, play the music, charge the phone all at the same time?  That is what I do, and also blue tooth the phone for calls to the head unit.

You may also be able to get a 1 to 2 usb adapter and run both off the usb in the glove box.

Yeah looks like the antigravity is the way to go. Good call. I will buy one from my friends at Cycle One Mfg.
Red and Kate are good people there and can get you just about anything in the industry on special or if not in stock.
