S&S valve train upgrade
« on: August 27, 2015, 10:46:46 AM »

Well I am starting to get startup valve train noise on my 103 2014 wet head.

I am pricing out S&S ezee stat cams 551's and the quikie kit as well as premium liftes 1200 bucks  :o.

Anyway is it possible to modify a cam bearing pull for an EVO to be used on a twin cam?

Maybe it's just a lifter bleeding down. If you like the torque of the OE cams why not start out with just the lifters?

Any concern for using EZ Start Cams on a motor that already has compression relief or do people disable the stock when using the mechanical compression relief?  I believe there is a setting in the tune file to disable them.

Yep, you wouldn't want both...one or the other.

I believe all the 103's have compression relief valves in the heads.  I'm not a mechanic but that was my understanding and I know the Powervision I had showed toggles in the map files for turning the compression relief system on and off.  If thats the cam you really want the tuner could probably just disable the stock system.

Well that shines different issues. I was wondering because the power vision map I am using still let's my starts to dead head every once and a while. But if that's the case there is no sense putting ezee starts in

Nope, just those same old sorry "C" lifters.  Once Harley makes a cost cutting move, they are loathe to retreat and admit they screwed up.

I'd be using the S&S lifters for sure, standards would work fine here. I'd also suggest the MR103 cams in lieu of the 551's. My buddy installed 551's in his 12', wasn't happy at all, basically no difference between them and stock, a tiny bit more torque lower down, but still all done by 4000rpm/
The MR103 provided more torque early and run out to 5500rpm. If I remember correctly numbers where 98 hp/112t. fwiw  Buffalo

Change cams if you want but if it is starting hard the ACR system or starting system needs attention. The root cause.
