The HD dealer primo mech. here did the install and couldn't get the vibration out in 5th gear. Tried several times at hreat cost to me but I finally had him remove it.

I have the Baker DD6 and no issues...hd-dude installed and I have never looked back...Sorry to hear you had a problem but it doesn't sound GP Bearing support related...But I may have missed the thread.

With so many installed that are not having problems, I have to think it was my dealers installation problem but they are the only game in town and were charging me each time they give another try. So that is why I gave up.

MJ, the squirrely thing is you're never going to know for sure.  It could have been a one-off manufacturing defect.  A faulty bearing.  Those things are awfully straight forward to install but they still could have been doing something wrong (though it's hard to believe they got it wrong that many times).  Unfortunately you're never really going to know.  You don't even know for sure if they gave you run-out spec's that were inaccurate just to cover their butt and avoid having to do something to a motor.  The whole episode was unfortunate though.

Mark, will you be sending the brace back to Jim/GP Designs?  It will be interesting to see if they take a look at it to see if there was some manufacturing defect or something, or just what else they have to say about it.  As simple as the piece is in design and installation, it is difficult to assume it's something the dealer did during installation.

Also, not sure what reason they would have for shying away from correcting a crank runout problem.   If it's out of spec (and especially if the motor is still under warranty), why wouldn't they want to address it for you?

Brian, from what Mark had said both here and that evening I was in Memphis one concern might be simply that they screwed up a bit on the first attempt at install (left compensator nut loose and that came up with a half baked explanation as to why it had happened).  Then later said all checked ok when it was doubtful at that point that it had been checked.  So to admit it now would cause some uncomfortable questions.

Actually, while I am no expert, with the GP support the compensator nut is GONE (according to hd-dude).  Mine is in a box on my workbench...
