HI fellow CVO Dudes,
I`ve not been back to the site for a while, Ive been busy. But I did get my new tyres. I checked out the Metzler ME880`s and found the 210/50/17 to be too small in diameter for my liking. Standing beside the Dunlop it was 1 inch lower, which means 1/2 inch less ground clearance or to compensate adjusting that with the air in the rear shocks. Which is opposite to the look I`m after, being I want to fill the rear fender.
I need all the ground clearance I have now. So I just went with the std Dunlop for the rear.
The front on the other hand was a totally different story. I bought the Metzler ME880 because it was, I`m not 100 percent sure now from memory, but I think at about 2 inch, bigger in diameter. The size is 150/80/17, it`s very tall. So tall I had to move the front fender up 1 inch. Fortunately the forks I have, allow that by reversing the fender mount brackets. I found out the hard way though, when I fitted it, I spun the wheel and found it just cleared the fender, however when I rode it the heat expanded the tyre and it rubbed on the fender causing the paint to blister. DOH! Thats when I changed the mounting brackets around to move the fender 1" higher. But I love the look of the bigger chunky wheel it really fills the guard. The other plus is a bit more ground clearance. It`s about the same diameter as a 21" wheel now. Which is something I was considering as a mod, but not now.
