A trip out to J&S fish camp and ride around Big O is always worth the bugs...Spicey boiled Pnuts n Beer!
Amazing. Somebody else here knows about the J&S Fish Camp.
I thought I was the specialist in the obscure and out-of-the-way. And the Square Grouper? Heck, I coached little league baseball with the bartender. Great place with a superb view. Right on the water across from the lighthouse.
http://jsfishcamp.com/http://www.squaregrouper.net/I'll be a busy bee over Christmas and leaving for Dizzy World on the 26th, but if you guys arrange a meetup down here, say the week before, post it here.
About the Lake O lap--IMO, the best part is the northern arc, from Port Mayaca to Moore Haven. US27 from Moore Haven to South Bay isn't my idea of fun--too much fast heavy truck traffic and nothing much to look at--just an undeclared Interstate. The trip from Okeechobee (the town) to Sebring is much nicer. Hwy 98 is easier and more relaxing--some pretty scenery and the town of Sebring is a neat, interesting destination. They have a nice little bike event in October.
Or you can take Hwy 70 from Okeechobee to Arcadia for a taste of real forgotten Florida history. You'll see the vast south Florida prairie and understand why the Old West happened down here, too. Arcadia was a real shoot-em-up cow town back then, complete with outlaws and hangings.
I guess you can tell I'm not much of a Miami Beach type.
