You mean the Hybrid is not a take home vehicle?

You really need to work in MA where it seems every state worker has a take home vehicle.

Been in the news a lot lately given that they also get them fueled up at my expense...

From what I've been reading about Boston FF's I don't think I want to be associated w/that department. Seems they want to get paid and not work (get disability pay and compete in bodybuilding competitions). :nixweiss:

FFs provide an incredibly important service...and deserve respect for that.

Unfortunately...there appears to be a growing number that are ethically challenged.  Not just FFs...but many state workers in MA.

I just hope that the residents wake up and see this abuse....it is the cause of many of our fiscal problems.  When we are asked to approve our budgets, we all hear the rallying cry that you can't cut school funding...think of the children...but very few actually listen to the fact that the abused pension system and overly generous healthcare is in fact a major part of the problem.

The one about a deputy sherrif able to nearly double his pension by calling in sick on his PD job so he could work for the county is an example of a broken system.

The other Boston FF scam was that you retired at the highest rank you served.  100 FF are being paid at several ranks higher because they filled in for one day as acting whatever.  This was a planned scam and lactually legal.
There are thousand of great FF in every city that do us great service.  Unfortunately these few clowns get the news (as they should) and make everyone look bad.

At my place of employment, your retirement is based on your highest three year average. For years, police and fire would bulk up on overtime in the last three years of service. Some of it was worked, but a lot was just put on paper. Some officers who never worked a lick of OT prior to their final three years, would routinely show up to 40 hours a week of OT, meaning they worked 80 hrs per week for three years. Bullchit.  It's really hurt our retirement plan, which is now in the hole, as these guys paid in to the fund at much lower rates, and are now pulling it out at twice the rate they should have. I have the utmost respect for our police and fire depts, but it seems that they could care less about the general employees that are in the same fund.

That is the way it is here, however it's based on your salary which doesn't include OT or any career development pay. We are trying to get it changed to include career development pay (5%, 10%, 15% increments) though. If it were like what you explain here I would've really made out for 10 years I worked 2 city jobs (1 Full time, 1 Part time), and took as much OT as I could.

Why it would not be based on the last three BASE PAY amazes me...again, foxes guarding the henhouse...the local pols are usually too scared to take on these unions.

The BFD wants more money if they have to submit to random drug testing.  What do the two have in common...nothing...why should someone be paid more to be tested?  There is no excuse.  If they don't want to be tested, argue that on fourth amendment grounds....but don't demand to be paid more if you are tested...

This is in the wake of last year's cover up of the circumstances around the death of the two fireman in the chinese restaurant fire.  The coroner's office reports showed one had twice the legal blood alcohol limit for driving and the other was high on cocaine.  One forgot to bring in his radio and the the other didn't have his Scot pack.  At least their stupidity didn't cause the loss of any other firemen or civilians, but for the union to fight drug testing (should be alcohol testing as well) is ridiculous, especially when the union will accept the testing if the wages are increased?  We pay more for sober firemen?  Aren't they all?
They let the BFD investigate the deaths.  The investigating comnmittee never officially asked to see the medical examiner's report so it was not even considered.  The DA's office later turned it over, post decision.   Total scam.

This is the reason unions have dropped in popularity in the US.
