Thunder Header Cones
« on: October 15, 2008, 04:02:18 AM »

The sound from my o5 with Thunder Headers was awesome.  However, I don't want to change the new style headers on my 09 SEUC.  I'm looking for slip ons with that great sound.  Anybody try Thunder Cones?  Also do I need to get a SERT.  Thanks for any advice

I ordered the ThunderCones #1061 and #1161 Heat Shields.  If anyone is interested I'm set for installation on the 25th. :bananarock:

I've had a 2 into 1 Thunderheader on a Road King and a Screamin Eagle V-Rod. I've also had a set of Thunderheader slip-ons on an 03 SERK. All three are loud with the V-Rod being insane when hammering the throttle. The slip-ons on the 03 SERK seemed to be louder than the 2 into 1 was. I rode to Vegas (325 miles) with them on the SEVROD and thought I'd be stone deaf when I got there (I'm already minus 60% of my hearing) and that was with custom fitted earplugs. In my opinion, these are not a pipe you want to run for anything other than a bar blaster you want max performance out of.

Just my $0.02

I know the feeling; I had my ear blow out in Nam.  I tried the T-Rex True Duals on my 05 UC.  Rode for Salt Lake to the top of California, then down the coast to LA.  Tossed thos puppies in the garbage because they were obnoxiously loud.  Replaced them with ThunderHeader 2-1 and loved the sound.  Folks would tell me how loud they were.  But I didn't need ear plugs so I was a happy guy.

I've been thinking of removing the CC but I think I'll waint until I get the ThunderCones installed.  Just to be safe I'll keep the OEM's for a while.

Thanks for your comments.  They're on their way so I'll see/hear.  Maybe I'll see someone at Biketoberfest later in the week.

I'm happy with the sound.  There is no need to re-tune; performace is improved and no poping.  Don't see a need to remove the CC at this time.  I suspect if I did remoce the CC I would need to re-tune

The pipes look great.  (The best 09 color, IMO)  Thanks for the pictures!  I had a thunderheader on an EVO about 10 years back.  Bike ran real strong, and incredibly loud!

Thundercones with the cat still in place. I can't imagine what that sounds like. Might actually be a new trend in gaining some quality sound and a bit of performance without getting the Cops all worked up

THEY LOOK SWEEEEET!!!!

I am a Thunder Header Man. I love the sound of a well tuned bike sporting a Thunder Header, or in this case Thunder Cones.
