By the way, Garmin's tech support is hit or miss(some of the techs are fantastic, some are rather lame)but Garmins support is still WAY better then the other brands(Magellan's support is awful, Lowrance is not much better)

Personally, I would never trust a hard drive on a bike & I saw two reports of 2620's going belly up for that exact reason before I bought my unit.

I do professional digital photography as a side business & use Microdrives & CF cards in my studio gear.

I've got a microdrive I use in my Canon 10D and (fortunately) it's behaved flawless for a couple of years of regular use (including being hauled in the motorcycle).

Actually, the important software upgrades are not free unfortunately.  The Mapquest version updates are free, but the updates that make the POI's & roads more current are usually around $150.

Not only that, when you install one of those paid updates -it usually invalidates any saved routes you have.  The routes usually become incompatible at that point.

WFP,

Nice SeaRay which one is it I saw 2 motors so was guessing Sundancer 290 or up.

410 and it is tough to spend $50/hour for fuel!  We are doing shorter trips and anchoring more!

Thanks for all the input, I bought a Garmin 2610, and ordered a bike mounting kit also. This will be a new experience, I usually just wander around until I get where I want to go!

Got mine back yesterday...actually a new one...now I can't load the damn maps!  I wonder if there is some pirating protection between the units s/n and the unlock code I have for the s/w?

nothing is easy.
