You mentioned getting a flash, the pop ups on the Nikon's do an excellent job for what they are. But if you are looking for something just a little more and with bounce capabilities look at the the Nikon SB 400. Takes the load off the camera battery, can bounce and is TTL.

I have two SB 800's but use the 400 most of the time.

Just don't brag about your new camera to couple that came with us to Atco  :confused5:
They are brutal, actually he is quiet she isn't.  :o I talked to Tom a few days ago as he does know cameras, he was very helpful.

What are you storing your camera in when you travel on the bike? No ill affects.

I went this route after seeing Porthole's pics with it. Not quite as compact as the smaller point and shoots, but I found the smaller ones severely lacking in zoom capability. This one has an 18x zoom. Excellent pics! ;) :2vrolijk_21:

Yes, stealth pop up, and not the greatest, but functional. The flash is only good for "normal" closer shots. It can't handle the distances you can get with the 18x zoom though. There is no hot shoe provision for an external flash. Overall, I really like the camera though! :2vrolijk_21:

Puzzled,
This was a pic of the Mormon National Temple in DC I took with my D90 and 18-55mm lens, using available light ... the Vibration Reduction capabilities really helps when you use slower shutter speeds.  This was shot at ASA 200, F5, 1/2sec 25mm.  For one of my first "art" shots with this camera, I thought it turned out pretty good.  (Click on it to enlarge) :)

I probably took over 75 shots that night, but only kept about 35 of them.  That's the great thing about digital, you can make creative changes on the fly.

Here's another less "artsy" one I took of the temple with the camera on full automatic using the same lens.

'bout sums it up.

What are you storing your camera in when you travel on the bike? No ill affects.

This bag is the bike travel bag, just big enough to hold my camera and the 18-200 lens, a spare battery and card (your camera is a bit smaller). Fits fine in the front of the saddlebag.

Make sure you get a good filter for the front of the lens. Somewhere along the ride down to MV last year I must have been a bit rambunctious with carrying my gear. When I pulled the camera out on the third day the filter was shattered from getting hit on the edge. Filter - 0 lens -  :2vrolijk_21:

I don't care for the Nikon branded carry strap, so I added one of these quick release straps. I bought two, to get an extra set of "short tabs".

I move the strap from the camera to the bag as needed.

Before I got my current camera I used this bag, worked out really great , and I am considering getting a slightly smaller camera to once again carry this way on trips.

This is a magnetic mount.

A hint for those using the VR lens - if you put the camera on a tripod turn off the VR. Mounted on the pod the VR will cause the opposite effect
