yes, but u will have to have a 12v to 5v adapter. the cig plug adapter will not work if u wire here. cig lighter is 12v and adapter changes to 5v. if you cut adapter off of cord and plug to 12v it will kill ur tomtom. my hardwire sat radio came with hardwire adapter but you can problaby find 1 at electronics store. just find one that is 12v to 5v with the same size connection to the tomtom

Not doubting you but I am surprised the rider 2 uses a 5v system instead of 12v like garmen. I looked at their site and could not distinguish any type of transformer in the battery cord. They could just not be showing it though. As I recall, the Zumo's even came with a cig lighter adapter. It was just long enough to hit the tank on the FLH..'s at full left though. Tons of options if the rider 2 did use 12v . All cig adapters come with a built in fuse, usually a 10a though and needs to be replaced with a 2a if I am correct for the GPS's.

great site , thxs , so the best is really to connect the TomTom to the ACC switch to only give power when it is empty .

Interesting, that makes more sense.  Not understanding much German, does that mean the bike only runs the reader 2 and does not charge it while riding?

The Garmin Nuvi has a transformer that reduces the voltage too. It is in the cigarette lighter adapter on the cord.  We cut the wires off above the cigarette lighter after consulting with someone (idiot) at Garmin and wired it to the 12 v wiring of the bike and fried the Nuvi----it smoked and went dead!  So be sure to keep the tranformer if your unit has one on the cigarette lighter cord.

I have hard wired both my last two Garmins direct to the Battery, feeding the cables under the Dashinator (very easy). The advantage of this system is that the unit comes on as soon as it is placed in the cradle and you can set it up/play with it without the bike running. I often look at some of the information it has collected at the end of a ride and it is nice to do this sitting on the bike with the engine off and cooling down (easier to talk to others at the same time). If I want the unit off I just press the "Off" button.

Works well for me.

Exactly what I am saying. No separate switch. Now, as a member of the SERK style police I have to write you a ticket for placing these thingies in a way to obstruct the beauty of the bike!
