Fullsac Baffles in Screamin Eagle Performance Mufflers
« on: April 27, 2009, 07:11:08 PM »

I was Checking my Stash and decided to fit a set of 1 3/4 Fullsacs in a brand new pair of SE Touring Mufflers I had squirreled away, Only took two cuts with a band saw and four spot welds, they Sound Great and really match the rear of the bike nicely.

Hi, when you tack welded the fullsacs in to the muffler shells, did the welding cause any discoloration on the outside of the mufflers? I would prefer the fullsacs being tack welded as the original are done. Looks a lot cleaner to me, than drilling and bolting. Thanks

These SE baffles are held in place by Pop Rivets, I had to modify the baffles to  fit,  the standard full sacs do not have to be bolted in place, a little dab of JB weld works just like the original spot welds, The bolt is designed to allow you to easily remove and change baffles, the only welding I did was to fasten the outlet end of the SE Baffles onto the Fullsac Core.

Thanks, Ive had the mufflers for a few years and wanted the slash ups to follow the lines of the Bags, just to lazy to tackle the modification.

HJ, Its damaged allright, the shiny end on the fullsac baffle was removed from the SE baffle, the Black End was removed from the Fullsac baffle, The Fullsacs were not designed as a drop in for these mufflers I just liked the sound so well that I figured it was worth the effort, actually quite easy as the baffles on the SE's can be taken out by simply removing the pop rivets.

Dartman, thanks for the JB Weld link. Looks like this is some sort of epoxy and the manufacturer says something about how it will withstand up to 500 degrees temp? Did you say you have used this stuff successfully on this sort of application? Thanks again, this sounds much easier than drilling holes on the muffler shell.

JB WELD - many years ago I traded an oil buring 283 motor for a 327 race built motor that had a long large crack on the outside of the block's water jacket.  The assumption was that the water jacket must be cracked inside too. When I pulled the 327 apart it was a brand new "built" motor and even the crank was balanced and sides of rods shaved, etc. No signs of any moisture inside anywhere. So, I cleaned up the crack and used two tubes of JB Weld to seal the outside crack.

End of story was I drove and raced that motor for years. Even with coolant and radiator pressures when hot, it never leaked a drop. I've also heard of it being used to repair damage to scored clyinders, then rebored. This is the first time I've heard of it being used in exhausts.

If the product will stand up to exhaust temps at the exhaust tip, this may be a much better solution than drilling a hole in the muffler shell and bolting it in.

If  memory serves me it will withstand 500 degrees I doubt if the outlet end comes any where near those temperatures.
