Navigation system with 2010 SE Ultra?
« on: January 19, 2010, 10:38:01 PM »

Was checking on some things dealing with items with the 2010 SE Ultra. Can anyone confirm if this bike or does not come with a navigation system?

Nav is standard on 2010 CUSE, may not be the best, but it's standard. Zumo seems to be the favorite' definately a better choice than the HK unit.
Are you buying a CUSE, if so welcome to the forum from SE Wisconsin, enjoy yourself!!

The legal answer is YES.. But it sucks, in fact it sucks so bad I can't believe EVEN THE MOCO would put that POS on their bikes and call it a Navigation system.  Just go get a GPS like most of us have, or a map, or read the stars on a cloudy night cuz thats better than the HD nav.  :soapbox:

While it has its limitations i use it frequently and find it very useful. Nothing works as well as the good old map.

The built-in system actually works quite well by its standard (is is about eight years old). However what really sucks is the data, which is about five years old in the NEWEST version available. This is why you see "Off Road". If new data would be available, the system would not be so bad altogether. Yeah, I know, no maps, no waypoints, no Bluetooth. But also it is not separately attached, just part of the radio.

Technically yes....the 2010 SEUC comes with a built-in Nav systems in the HK radio. Practically speaking it comes with no Nav system and you might as well plan on it not being included. The Nav system in the HK radio requires giving up the CD player, reading words on a dismal screen output without a map that's impossible to read in any daylight, at an angle that makes it impossible to just glance down and the directions, on a database that's ridiculously out of date.

The stock Nav system is a dangerous POS that's more likely to cause you to get in an accident that it is to get you to your destination. HD should be ashamed even calling it a Nav system and listing it in any of their literature as a "feature". If anything, its a dangerous "feature". I'd love to see HD's internal statistics on accident claims that the rider blamed on that incredibly stupid system.

Do yourself a favor and get a Zumo. Your Zumo will be the single best upgrade you'll make to the bike.

My experience with the stock navigation system has been good. I took a 6k mile trip last summer and I used the navigation system on almost every mile of the trip. The HK navigation system seems to be as accurate as my Magellan and Garmin units. The user interface of the HK unit is not as graphical as it could be, but the functionality seems to be on par with my other GPS units.

My biggest complaint about the HK unit is that the CD has to be loaded into the system for it to re-route you if you chose to take an alternate route to your destination other than the one initially recommended by the unit. If the CD is loaded it performs as well as my other units with re-routing. My other complaint is that why does a CD need to be involved in operating the unit other than loading the initial map and the US map should not be spread across 3 CDs.

Dave, I'm an old map reader too.  Never had a GPS (until the HK on the 2010).  Haven't even played with it yet.  I still like maps.

Agreed (not about you being old..lol), my wife's Garmin has led her astray several times, nothing like plotting out the route on a map.

I've used the HK Nav system extensively and like it quite well.  The more I use it, the better I like it.  It does exactly what it needs to do but there is a learning curve.  I also like that the unit is tightly integrated and doesn't clutter up things.  I actually think that the zumo units could be the bigger cause for concern relative to safety.  Like my granddaddy used to say..."Too much of a good thing is never good".  I don't know if I could resist the temptation to mess with it as I do in the car with the garmin (you should hear what my wife says   :-\)  On the down side, it would appear that the MOCO is not supporting the HK unit and its' demise may be coming as evidenced by the lack of new map updates.  Having the map CD in the unit is a moot point for me as I use mostly XM or MP3 plugged into the aux.  FWIW   :)
