Sorry to hear about the motor.  If you really like the bike, I'd rebuild the motor (Zipper's 120 Muscle Kit), 60 K miles on mine, no problem.  However, if you are really aching for a new bike, then get one, but no assurance that 110 won't chit the bed either.

7 year extended warranty is money well spent!  Mine has paid for itself on the past four bikes. :2vrolijk_21:

A new motor for a $50 deductable can't be beat......ask Sklywag.

Ordinarily I would say Amen brother to the post above JC, but when I bought LD, I made the SE 103 Motor build up part of the deal. As such, they said while they'd sell me an ESP, the motor would not be covered. I figured anything other than the motor was going to screw up under the OEM warranty or not at all so I took a pass on the ESP this time. If the sun shines bright in Poway CA or Sebago Lake ME in the next couple years, I'll add a bike to the stable, leave it bone stock and buy the ESP.

Yea Brian I know what you mean.  The extended warranty (service) agreement and the Magnussen Moss Warranty Act have been beat to death here (and other forums).

I can only say that my personal experience is that my motor work has never came into question on the factory warranty or the extended warranty......not here in Nor Cal, not in Idaho and not in Missouri (two other locations that I've had warranty work done).  And, I don't know of anybody here in Nor Cal that their motor work has prevented them from a warranty claim.  The only thing I can think is that the Nor Cal dealerships follow the intent of the Magnussen Moss Warranty Act (if the failure is not directly related to the modifications, then they have to honor the warranty). :nixweiss:

Tommy,
With your riding ability and abuse you give the ride you have, trade up for new frame style and a warranty. The money you spend on the 07 will suit the fix for now. Just INVEST in a new ride, Then we wont be able to keep up...

Yea, I'm leaning toward the new bike now.  Waiting on numbers from two dealers and will decide then.  I think my bike WAS worth 22k, if they get within 5k of that, it will be a done deal!

And yes, I'll buy the extended warranty this time!  I'm in the car business and as far as I'm concerned an ESP on a car isn't worth the money, but a bike, probably so.

Had missed this thread until now.  Condolences on the dead bike Tommy.  That royally sucks.  Noticed in the little pic showing the cams themselves that the bike in the background appeared to have exhaust and cam cover back on it.  Different bike or had the shop done some reassembly?

From a technical aspect I wonder if these failures are from the added spring pressure and valvetrain weight, now the caged needle bearing has exceeded it's load handling capacity. Would be interesting to check to see if everything on top was working properly IE no seized valves.
The 96" motors do not show this failure in stock and mild trim. The SE120r comes with full compliment bearings with added capacity.

07hd110, I have replaced an engine before, in my 1995 Heritage. I upgraded to a S&S 107 which gave me nothing but grief for  the first 4k miles.(I have posted about it in the Evo section) The time and energy to have the S&S installed, then removed and rebuilt by S&S (under warranty, also the jam nut on one of the rear push rods was loose when it came back from S&S) then to have the pistons become so loose after another 2k miles they had to replace the barrels pistons rings again (still on their tab, but I insisted my mechanic do the rebuilt and now all is well) I say get a new bike if you can afford it, looking back and considering the wasted riding time, trips to the shop etc. I am a Harley lover to the end, and I bought an 09 SEUC new in Aug of 08 and I love it, but BMW is coming out with a six cylinder touring bike with 160 HP/129 ft lbs. of torque out of the box.  It includes all the bells and whistles of a CVO  Ultra Classic (yes I know it is still not a HD), it will proably sell for less money and be a very reliable ride. It is a K 1600 GTL (www.futureoftouring.com) I know you have a tough decision to make, but I bet most guys on the site would say get a new bike if you can. Sorry about the long post, but because we all pay so much for these bikes it sucks that they give so many people so many problems.CAHDBIKER
