This isn't the tire you've been talking about replacing is it?  Good job on keeping your head. We'll all chip in for a GC to send you for new underwear.

If you're speaking at me Jim, my rear tire was stil showing a nickle's worth of tread. While a new tire was on the outer fringe of my radar screen, this one did not go flat because it was worn out. I picked up a sheetrock screw. FYI, my crash and burn in Toronto was not due to a worn tire either. That tire had less than 5K on it.  An independent lab hired by State Farm Insurance concluded that the tire had been cut and suffered a "catastrophic failure". Some people I expect bench riding bullchit from, you I expect better amigo

Here is what we did with our new water yesterday...we raced. This is a annual outlaw "race what you brung" event and a lot of fun. The weather was a little cool but that just makes the boats run faster. Doc

FYI, in case anyone's confused, I decided to go back to the handle I used when I 1st joined the site back in 05

Got LD up on the rack today. Boy that sheetrock screw tore the hell outa my tire. It punctured the tire right on the edge of the tread and sidewall and the sidewall was ripped all to hell. Now I feel really lucky.

Congrats to you for stopping it, well!!

Happened on my old FLSTN just before I swapped it for my CVO. Was driving home, just inside town, when the wobbling started, so speed was no issue.
Stopped twice to pump the rear tire, this way I just finished at the dealer's gate!!

Ride safe!!!

You know, I'm confused. Both sidewalls are tore up. It's almost like somebody shot the damn tire. Small puncture/rip/tear on one sidewall, big ass mess on the other. I assumed it was from a drywall screw that was in the thread, but the screw wasn't in the same area as the messed up sidewalls. WTF ?

Prolly cut it up as you were riding w/o enough air pressure while wobbling to the stop.  :nixweiss:  spyder

I had just put a new rear tire on my 10 SEUC and last weekend I was heading out through our mountains when I got a flat in the twisties. Like your story I had had this happen to me before but I couldn't believe it was a flat on my new Gold Plated Rear Tire. I finally got off the throttle and brought BLUU to a stop. In the deep new thread of the tire was this honkin Screw that had drilled all the way into the tire. Nothing like buying 2 new Gold Plated Rear Tires within 2 weeks.

 :cherry:
A couple of times (in the same enduro),  yrs ago I had a similar (yet different cause) situation.  Whenever something slows (or stops) the rotation of the rear tire,  the wobble arises and the rear of the bike will attempt to pass the front......if you let it.

In my case,  a "lean" running 2 stroke Bultaco when running WFO (around 70 mph),  the engine would lean out and lock up solid (no warning......just instantly).  Obviously a locked up engine while in gear will likewise lock up the rear wheel and then the fun begins.

The cure in this case is to grab the clutch lever as quickly as possible, which allows the rear wheel to again begin rolling/rotating and the bike will instantly straighten back out.  This allows one to coast to a stop and clean out the drawers

So,  in a rear tire flat at speed,  I'm of the opinion that (likewise to my enduro scenario),  pulling in the clutch lever might help the situation even though you indicated getting out of the throttle.

Pulling in the clutch on pavement would allow the bike to freewheel. The weight of the bike plus my fat azz sittin on it would make it want to roll (especially going downhill) for a long time. I was trying to get it stopped and do so with a minimum of brakes, Using the engine to slow the motorcycle down made more sense than using a handful of brakes. I'd tried that when I had a blowout in 05 outside of Toronoto to totally disatrous results. Knobby tires, dirt surface = different situation.
