4" Rinehart's on 2009 SERG
« on: June 27, 2011, 08:11:57 AM »

Does anyone have the new 4" Rinehart's on their bike? I had the 3" Rinehart with their chrome tips but when having a cold beverage one evening in the garage looking at the bike my mind starting thinking (I hate it when it does that) that the larger diameter would fill in the space better from the extensions on the lowers? Thanks everyone have a great week.

Hi- I have the 4" Rineharts with chrome tips on my 2009 SERG.

Fills in the holes like the stockers for sure- I think if you have bag cut outs like we do, a minimum 4" diameter muffler is a must.

Do your mufflers center up in the rounded opening or do they hang to the outside of the rounded opening just like the stock CVO mufflers?

I just put the 4" Rineharts on and my left muffler is slight off center--just like the stock one was!

I think they are fairly even- I re-adjusted them pushing the one side in, then the other side out, then tightening the 2 mounting bolts while holding them in position.

And nobody dare suggest they aren't evenly sticking out- I re-did them and fussed over them forever until I was satisfied they are even, lol.

Here's a picture of the rear of my '09 SERG.  I have fought with the miss alignment off and on for a couple years.  I started with a new rear bracket and eventually designed a stamping press and stamp my new adjustable rear brackets from 11 gauge stainless steel.  They fit into the original rubber bushing mount on the rear and allow you to loosen up the front muffler clamps and just slide the mufflers over at the rear to align the mufflers in the center of the factory outlet in the fender and bag cutouts.

I have not decided yet if I'm going to do these and offer them.  The press labor is all by hand and it does take some time to get these correct.  But when I look at the possible bikes that they will correct the muffler spacing, it looks like there may be some demand if I can keep the cost down on them.  There are approximately 3k '09 SERG's and the same number for each year for the SESG's.

I'll try to post some pictures later this weekend of the new offset slotted stainless brackets.

The bottom line is that the MOCO did a great job on the body work and then dropped the ball on placing the mufflers in the correct location to take advantage of the cutouts.

How hard would it have been for them to have done the job right?  :'(  :'(  :'(

How do the 4" Rineharts compare with the new 4" Vance & Hines for noise and performance?

Time for a little more activity on this topic.  Dan, what's the latest on your mounting tabs?  Can anyone comment on the sound question?  I have Rush mufflers on my '09 SERG3 and while they are good for sneaking out of the apartment complex early in the morning without pissing off the neighbors, they sound a little too "metric" for my taste.

To be honest guys, I've had the project from hell at work and have been working some weekends and about 12 hour days during the week.  This machine was supposed to ship the end of June and is still on our floor today.  We are getting close as the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter.

I have the stamping die in my garage and we have the 11 ga stainless at work, but I've not taken the time from our overloaded machine shop schedule to work my stuff into the water jet jobs.  It's probably going to be after the new year before I can somewhat relax and get these things made and a price on them.

I'm running stock CVO 4" with Fullsac 2" baffles and they are just right for my wife and I.

Thanks for asking.

I have the 4 inch chrome tipped Rinehart's on my 2012 SG and they fill in the cavity under the bags real nice  :2vrolijk_21:  The sound is awesome but not intrusive.  I totally LOVE them  :vrolijk_4:
