Improving bike's performance...
« on: August 19, 2011, 04:39:39 PM »

I'm looking to improve my performance on my '08 SEUC and just wondering which one is the best and why?

Thanks in advance for your input.   :2vrolijk_21:

TTS Mastertune w/ Fullsac headpipe and cores.

Mostly it depends on what your tuner prefers to use, if you are going to do a Dyno tune.  I don't know how it is now, but the service with the Thundermax product used to leave a lot to be desired.

I have just completed 1000 miles with Rev Performance EMS system and I can say my bike has never run better.

Now to be fair, there was other issues that have been corrected

SE compensator
New Pistons and Jugs
a littlle head work, to correct compression ratio.

the throttle is crisp and the sound is clean (throatty)

no decell pop
power comes on quickly
exhaust got a little louder

very easy install, and just drive away
runs a lot cooler now.

the only bad thing is mileage took a dip.

Ditto on Fullsac X pipe, baffles, and TTS Mastertune.  You'll feel a "seat of the pants" difference for $1,100.  Great folks to deal with...very helpful.  Garage mechanic can install.

Had a PCV w/ auto tune, just got PowerVision b/c was thinking of changing gearing and wanted to be able to change speedo. Happy with both, went with PowerVision over others b/c I already invested in WB O2's that I'm still using.   Have a PCV retrofitted for 08 and FuelMoto map if you're interested, Jamie advised me when I bought PV that he could send me a map for a different bike configuration to load on PCV if I was getting rid of. As of now its setup for 08 SEUC with SE AC and Bub7 slip-ons

How bad did your mileage go down?

I did not want to calculate due to riding mostly in the mountains and pulling a trailer,
so I am not absolutely sure it went down or by how much.

Not fair until I calculate.

engine running much cooler.

Now that the trailer is off, I will see.

usually get about 240 miles/tank or about 40 MPH.

So far I really like the tuner.

Power Commander vs Race Tuner
« Reply #12 on: August 21, 2011, 10:14:24 PM »

My CVO FLHTCUSE6 is still stock (I've only had it a week!  Give me some time!), but I can relate my experience with Power Commander and Race Tuner on my '05 Wide Glide.

When I had 7k miles on it, I took it from 88 to 95.  BIG, BIG heads from Nallen Heads in CO.  10.5 cr, roller rockers, chain drive S&S 585 cams, etc.  When I first built it, I installed a Power Commander and had it dyno tuned; 102hp & 103tq.  It ran great!  I had an intermittent problem with the Power Commander, which they made good by sending another one ASAP.  Later, after talking to a very experienced dyno tuner, I decided to switch to the Race Tuner.  More dyno tuning; 107hp & 107tq!  It's not just the peak numbers either; with the Race Tuner, the torque numbers were much higher from 3k rpm to redline than the Power Commander was from 3k rpm to redline.

Outside of the engine, I have V&H Bigshots w/V&H baffles swapped out for Big City Thunder Monster baffles, and a Ness Big Sucker air cleaner.

Now I have 47k miles on it, and it still runs as strong as ever!  Mid 11's in the 1/4 mile.

Just my .02 worth.

Joe

PS this was all done in 2006.

I have a 2010 FLHTCUSE with all the attendant problems outlined in these forums.  I initially installed 2.25" Fullsac Power Cores.  Nice sound but not as throaty as the Rineharts I had on my 2006 CVO.  Bike pinged and had performance issues until I found Nightrider.  Steve Mullen seems to be one of the most level-headed guys around.  We talked and I purchased his O2 sensor plug-ins.  They helped a great deal.  Eliminated 90% of the ping and his suggestion to try different fuels helped even more.  Exxon premium pings but Sinclair is great!  The bike still seemed to be starved for air and was still running hot so I thought I would try Kuryakyn's Street Sleeper air filter system.  Installed it right after the Rally and what a difference!  Mullen says H-D's ECM after 2008 will adjust for any air cleaner/exhaust modifications you can throw at it and my seat of the pants feeling now is he is absolutely right.  The bike is such a pleasure to ride now and a month ago I said I would never own another 110" bike due to the heat and poor performance.  The heat is not an issue now and the bike is much more responsive and feels so much more powerful.  A much cooler running and more powerful bike without a tuner.  The Fullsac Power Cores even sound throatier to my wife (and me).  Overall, a huge improvement for very little cost.  For some straight information check out Nightrider.com.

funny thing is he said the same thing about the 06/07 ECM when closed loop, became the MOCO's answer to EPA.
for a moment lets say that they will....if they could, or even the stock ecm with the IXED'S or whatever model suites the bike.
if everything worked as described, you are still not going to alter the voltage enough to ever get any richer than 14.4. (closed loop) now for sure if you could bring the AFR's down from the 16's and 17's you would notice a diff. that is if everything worked as described. problem is it dosent.
here is the AFR'S on a 07 96 ci ultra stock A/C and a V&H pro pipe installed. stock ECM cal no adj. just ridden with the pipe swap. then brought to me for some sampling and then tuning.
now we know everyone always says if you dont open up the A/C then it is safe to just swap the exhaust and it will be fine. :nervous:

red is lean
blue is rich
the areas that dont have color are considered OK for what the ECM is calling for.
so would you consider this safe.
they dont just magically tune themselves back in .
