What makes a 95" Screamin Eagle
« on: September 01, 2011, 06:35:16 PM »

Does anyone know "technically" what makes a 95" screamin eagle?  I own a 2000 SERG and I assume it's a big bore 88"?  Because I purchased the bike used, all I know for sure is that it has a free flow aircleaner, after market slip-ons and a DynoJet Power Commander III USB.  Does anyone have a parts list with regards to what HD did to the motor over the stock 88" to make it a 95" SE?  The reason I ask, besides just plain curiosity, is that I am looking at the Power Commander maps and they are specific to after market pipes, cams, engine size, piston types and ECU stage I, II, and air filter.  I don't think the motor has been worked on or broken into, over what the factory did to make it into a SE 95" and the previous owner doesn't know either.

Thanks!

A few differences.  Same 4" stroke as the 88" but larger bore at 3.875".  That actually comes to 94.343 but they round it up to 95" for good advertising ::) .

It's the same Marelli ignition system that was on all the 88" bikes.  Heads are different and cams are different with the 95" motor using Harley's SE253 SE203 cam set.

above corrected to fix a typo -- thanks Harry

90% of the maps are for 95" flat top pistons, 203 cams, stage II ECU??? How do I know what stage ECU?  Someone told me SE's are ECU stage II.  Is that correct?  (I've gotta get me a manual or this bike)

Not Stage II to begin with.  And there's no way to know what mapping someone might have done over the years without "looking" in the ECU.  There was an old Race Tuner version for the Marelli bikes so it's possible something was done.  But without the Race Tuner interface module (dongle) and software that would have come with that package the only way to know is to have a dealer hook it up to equipment at the dealership.

Sorry.  Typo.  Don't read my own for editing.

SE 203.  It's 25937-99 if I remember correctly.

Had never used nor studied that SE253 that was inadvertently mentioned.  So curiosity made me go take a look.  Wouldn't want to use it on a stock 95 but it wouldn't suck for stouter applications.

253, or 203, really doesn't matter.
Both will feel like you have the anchor out.

...and the original 203s aren't in my 2000 model 95".  But he asked what was stock rather than what options might be.  So the rest is a discussion for a different thread.

Slow down a minute
The SE 2000 was just a big bore only. Stock cams. That's it IIRC.

Pulled 203s out of mine when I did the cam swap.  That's always what's listed in the parts manual.
