Are the SERG's to low?
« on: May 12, 2012, 11:48:58 PM »

My bike is set up stock with no suspension mods. But while in the hard turns today I was hitting the exhaust heat shield under the bike and hit the brackets for the floorboards. I was under the impression that the floorboards should be the first thing to hit while in a hard turn.  :nixweiss:

Fireguy,

That should not happen on a stock SERG.  Even with a Progressive front suspension and Suspension Technologies rear shocks (about an inch lower than stock, front and rear), I scrape the rear of the right floorboard or the jiffystand on the left, first.  1:  Is there enough air in your rear shocks?  2:  Have you noticed any leaking from the front forks?  Something must be wrong or too low for the bike to react the way you describe.

Rear shocks have 40psi and no leaks from the front.

Okay, riding  alone or with BSR?  I assume you're sure the suspension is stock and you checked the scrape marks.  Still, what you describe should not happen.

I've touched down only a couple of times... never thought I would with the new chassis... but again.. right floorboard and jiffy stand.

Flying solo. No change to the suspension. I had no notice until my riding skills went to another level.

Really you should check and double check your tire pressures, rear suspension for dust collecting for any possible leaks on the shock bodies and that your air lines are holding and really look at your exhaust system for fitmint issues maybe wrong size spacers on the muffler mounting bolts?  Because what your describing is not normal.  With my 09 I touch down the rear part of the right floor board all the time and on occasion on a ripppin hard right corner I'll grind on the outside of the rear chrome floor board mount.  And left hard corners grind on the side stand.  Love the light show on those night rides! :huepfenjump3: And Ive never touched down the bags nor the exhaust system.  Anyway Let us know what you find out.
                                                Hope this helps,

Big C, just put on new tires and the pressure is spot on. Exhaust is stock. I did measure the length of he shocks and there 12" eye to eye. I did take the time to measure the height at the rear and the front part of the frame. It's 1/4" higher in the front while on the kickstand. :nixweiss:

Do you have Vance and Hines Power duals for your exhaust?  Your sig says you have a SG now...is this happening with the streetglide or RG?  If it's happening with the road glide it makes more sense as you can wing corner with a RG, not so much with a SG... ;D

Off camber turns could cause that............

Other than that, the only other thing I can think of............

Dude, SLOW DOWN....  :huepfenlol2:

Fireguy,

How about photos of the scraped areas, underside of floor boards and jiffy stand?  UFO_HOG makes a good point.  If you scrape on an off camber (reverse banked) turn, that might cause what you described.

Sorry for the dirt. Haven't cleaned after last ride. But here is the heat shield under the bike.

Starting to think about putting progressive monotub shocks on the front and 13" shocks on the back. Any ideas?
