Fullsac 2.25 vs 2.25 SD results...confused & unhappy
« on: July 28, 2013, 08:22:39 AM »

I have a 2011 FLHXSE2 with the TTS, X Pipe and 2.25 baffles (packing and sleeves in) that I have been running for the past three years that I have been very happy with.

Always looking for something more and not able to be satisfied and leave well enough alone I decided to try the 2.25 SD baffles. I installed them yesterday and was shocked at the sound when I started the bike. Much much quieter!!! The day I received the baffles I spoke with the lady at Fullsac because I questioned if they were the SD's. Sent her a picture of them and she verified they in fact were the right ones.

I changed nothing on the bike but the baffles and now its quieter. I don't get it.

Anyone have any insight as to why?

The packing was blown out of your 3 year old baffles, so they were louder than they should have been?

No I dont think so because the 3 yr old packing and screens were left in. Only the baffles were pulled and switched out. In theory it should have just been louder and throatier sounding.

You can get a lot of arm chair quarterback opinions but I would ask Steve.
He knows his products and stands behind them.
Give him a call and send him a pm.
He's on here a lot.
Good luck.

Pull the packing and mesh.

The SD cores are not quieter than the regular 2 1/4" cores without packing (been there done that, first hand experience).

I run the SD's without any packing behind a "D" X-pipe.

I did try them with one layer of wrap and they didn't sound much different than the regular 2 1/4" baffles. The SD's are a little loud at idle and while going through the gears. At 70+ on the highway they quiet down.

I'll try that when I get home today and see how it works out.
Thanks Puzzled.

I just don't get how they are quieter than the regular 2.25's with the same mesh and 3 year old packing. If they are advertised as louder, they should be louder with no modifications or having to change anything.

Does anyone have a picture of their 2.25 SD baffles?

The difference is in the size of holes. With the wrap on them you can't hear the difference in sound as you have covered the holes.  ;)

Hey Kern

When you have a chance, snap me a photo of both baffles side by side to confirm you did in indeed get a pair of SDs and not
our current 2.25 that are quieter than the old ones. You want loud? Don't worry, I will get you loud.

Thanks

I just ordered a set of the SD baffles is there any way to identify them to make sure I receive the correct ones?

:ROFLOL:
If all the customers wanted louder exhausts, making excellent performance exhaust would be a piece of cake.

I tune a lot of your exhaust and can say with confidence, it works as well as anything else I've tuned.
Interesting back-to-back difference in tuning between the "squished" OEM crossover and the full size one you make!
Never would have thought it would make that much difference.
Good products from someone who obviously cares about his customers. :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks Bob! I appreciate your comments.

Here's a pic of our old standard 2.25 louver core above and the SD below as provided by Kern.  Usually the SD is louder, but in this case the older standard 2.25 has less louvers and the shorter exit tip making it about the same. Our current 2.25 core has more louvers and the longer tip.The shorter tip allows the sound to escape inside the endcap sharpening the tone. Something I have always tried to avoid. But If loud is what people want, I'll do my best to accommodate.  Cut the exit tip in half Kern and see what happens.
