can I get directed to some good general maintenance info?
« on: August 15, 2013, 05:23:42 AM »

I need to do a bunch of general things/troubleshooting with my bike.  Oil change, trans oil change etc.  Is there a good resource I can get info from to do this correctly?  I don't want to pay the dealership when I know how to spin wrenches.  Just need some general info.  Also how to adjust the cam chains etc as well.

Thanks.  Peace.

I suggest you buy a Harley Service Manual for your model and year bike, plus the model-specific Supplement and the Parts Catalog for it.

All the basic maintenance information is in your owner's manual.

I believe you can also order the Owners Manual for your year/model from your dealer.

The service manual supplement is the lest important of the manual's you might get.  Things in it are only the few things not on the stock bikes.  So it's a little help, but rarely.

The owner's manual will give you volumes for fluid service and a little other info.  But, so far as actual service is concerned, nothing that's not in the service manual itself.

Two most important manuals to pick up would be the service manual for touring bikes and the parts manual.  The parts manual will give you the obvious benefit of having part number.  It will also, and more importantly, give you the nice exploded views of everything.  Those views don't exist in the same way in the service manual in many cases.  Those views can be very helpful when trying to figure out things come apart or go back together.  Sometimes even more helpful than the service manual itself.
