14 CVO RK or 14 Street Glide Special
« on: September 18, 2013, 11:38:08 PM »

I know this is a CVO forum but I'm having a hard time deciding between these two bikes. Love the Tribal Orange Black RK but I also like the new Street Glide Special and all its new updates, just not sure if I'm ready to be behind a fairing full time. I have ridden quite a few 09-13 SG and always got buffetting. Does anyone have any experience with the new improved fairing? Does it really cut out most or eliminates the buffetting?
What's your opinion of these two bikes?

Sounds like a test ride is in order.

A test ride would be the best. Different heights of riders will have different results as you may already know.

Speeder, what everyone else said....gotta ride 'em both.

If that's not possible, the new fairing does help with the buffeting issues that some of different heights may experience on the batwing.  However, a very good windshield (Freedom, Clearview, etc) will accomplish the same effect as putting a mail slot in the faring...cut down on buffeting.  That said, I don't know how you wouldn't get buffeting/wind from the windshield on the RK either.  Most windshields I've had over the years had some kind even moving the shield around up/down (if possible).  No radio on the SERK this year (may not be an issue for you) but you have a new designed head unit in the Special and it does sound very good...much more "umph" than previous stock sound systems.
So, the choice is yours....both are very capable road/street/touring bikes and look good "touring" town, too.  Good luck in whichever you choose...really, you can't go wrong with either scooter.

I own a 2014 Ultra Limited, I'm 6ft tall and feel a definite improvement with the 2014 vent system. It just makes sense; the faster you travel the stronger the air stream pushing your air current up and over the rider. The vent directs the air straight up to the inside of the windshield. If possible, take one for a test ride, that is what I did. 30 minutes later I was buying a bike.

You were riding your motorcycle on the highway and wind blew on you? WOW what the hell is that all about?  ::) I don't get the whole wind thing, it's a motorcycle not a car. Having said that, I don't get any buffeting on my '12 because I swapped out the stock windshield (if you want to call a tiny windshield that) for an Ultra recurve and I added hawg wings. Nice clean pocket of air in all conditions. I do this on each SG I buy and never have a buffeting issue?

I have had both the 07' CVO roadking and now the 10' CVO streetglide. I changed windshields on both to reduce buffing. Both have their advantages, the roadking has the cool factor going on and can see what's in front of your tire better when turning into drives or parking lots like potholes ( guess that makes it a better around town, local bike that you can also tour long trips on) , you also will get more wind (buffing) on the king. You can't bet the radio with the Weather band on long trips on the glide. The batwing will cut down more on the buffing too. The king handles a little better (lighter on turns) and I like the fuel cap on the king's tank better than the glide's fuel door. But after having both it would be hard to go back to a bike without the radio and batwing. You have to ask your self will you be happy with the glide special without the custom paint and 110 motor. Can't add all that for the price of the CVO

How about waiting for the mid-year models that are rumored to be coming out?  I wouldn't make any decisions until I saw the full lineup for 2014.

That's what I would do also, rumored to be a CVO Street Glide in the works, maybe mid year. If so get the CVO Street Glide.

Hadn't heard those rumors. How reliable do you think they are?
I know Harley has come out with mid year models previously but have they ever done a mid year cvo?

I believe they came out with a CVO mid year in 2010. A Blue and black CVO Ultra.

I would go with the CVO King, unless you really want a fairing and tunes.

Have you ridden street glides and do you like them?

Have you ridden road kings and do you like them?

They do handle a bit different.

I for one do not like the batwing, most do.  I just do not like the way they feel around 18 wheelers, in cross winds, and slow speed in parking lots.

My wife loves her street glide.  Me I prefer my CVO King or CVO road glide.  All three are on the same frame, and ride different.

Hey Dave, which do you ride more, your CVO Road King or your CVO Road Glide?

I have a '13 Road Glide and am considering switching over to the 14 CVO Road King - just curious if over time, I'll regret the glide due to reasons I cant yet imagine.   :)
