When I bought the beast it was not running and I paid $5,900 for it.  I got it running in a weekend, new battery, new chain, tuneup, and it had a hole in the right side gas tank from the big rocker shaft nuts the guy had put in it.  I swapped out the big nuts and fixed the tank, installed all the new parts and I was off to the races.

At that time in '04, I had no bike and hadn't since about '00 when I sold my GL1000 '77 Goldwing.  So even though I rode it from the 4th of July through that fall, it ran well and got me into riding again.  I tore it down in March and had it back up and running late May as you see it now.

I think I'm going to start it at $10.5k and see if I get any lookers.

Thanks again for the comments and pricing suggestions.

Well I rode it Saturday about 10 miles to my HD dealership for a safety inspection.  While I was there two other guys came in on their crotch rockets for inspections.  They were looking over the bike pretty hard and they told me how much they like the newer bike.  I told them that it was probably older than either of them; and it was...

I then rode over the DMV for plates and now I'm legal.

It was quite a shock to be riding this beast again.  I was on the freeway at 62 mph and it was just screaming.  I punched it up to 70 mph a couple times and it screamed "slow my ass down there big guy"... and I did.  This was my only bike for about four years and my wife and I rode it a lot.  When I got my '08 SERK the '76 just started to sit quietly in the garage.  I rode it two up at Sturgis for around 1500 miles in '08 and all I did was wash it, it performed well for what it is.

I will say that in parking lots I can let out the clutch in 1st gear and just walk along with the big, it's that lowly geared.  I could not do that with my SERG.

So at this point I'm getting ready to list it for sale and see how badly I get beat up.  I've heard that some areas that the Shovelheads are still quite strong in and others you can't give them away.

I did the same pictures on the Shovelhead forum to see what they thought about the non-original restore and it as about 25% "you took value off" and 75% "I like it" and it doesn't remove value.

There are a couple listed on their for sale forum and they're very nice original bikes and they're in the $7500 range.  I think I'll start out at $10.5k and see what happens.  They've told me that the Houston area is quite good for resale bikes like mine and some areas in CA.  Midwest and east coast it sucks the big one.

Thanks again to all for the nice comments.

Oh, yesterday I started work again on the Boardtrack project and redid my left exhaust pipe to be less "busy".  Now with that done I'm going to start on the wiring and hiding as much in the frame rails as I can.  I have to make up the rear fender side mounts, but they'll probably be waterjet parts that I draw up in AutoCAD.  Then all I have are the gas, oil and brake lines to make before I tear it down and paint it.

I'll give an update later with some updated pictures.  But for those that might be interested in what it looked like yesterday morning, you can look at my signature Picture Trail link to see lots of pictures.

Have a great week to all...

Looks great and no way would I have guessed 76. I'd make an offer but building another shovelhead is something I'd like to tackle on my own. Hope it comes out as nice as yours. Thinking 93ci and Baker 6-4 but we'll see.

You cannot go wrong with a 6 in 4 Baker setup.  If I had the 6 speed while in Sturgis in '08, it would have made the ole FLH very pleasing to ride.  It's the very wide ratio of the 4 speed that's the killer.

My stock 74" seems to have enough power, but a 93" would make it that much better.  I think they also do a 103" that would just rocket you around like our new 110" motors.

I think you would have a great combination with the two major components.

Thanks for the kind comments.
