New 120 ST from harley
« on: January 19, 2015, 05:57:39 PM »

It looks like H-D is seeing how many crate engines S&S is selling with a warranty. Saw this over on HTT.

"Does not fit twin cooled models"

What's up with that? I can do without the radiators if needed. If somebody wanted to bolt that right in, I'd think all they'd have to do is gut the water stuff.

You would probably need to do something to the ECM/BCM because of all the sensors on the "shower heads" so I doubt it would be an easy swap. Although the ECM stuff might be as simple as modifying the required software parameters when you do the tuning...
They more than likely put that disclaimer on there simply because the 120 has no provisions for the "twin cooled" system to be installed - as delivered -- maybe you could modify and re-install the twin cooled heads onto the 120???

Where there's a will there's a way...

hope they release this in a Graphite version, it may end up between the frame on my Breakout

the power output they are claiming seems a bit low but as it was built as an EPA compliant engine I am sure with a little tweaking it will come alive :)

for those at HD head office that may be reading this did I mention the word GRAPHITE...........please :)

It's hilarious they list as a selling feature that the lower rocker boxes are machined for proper valve spring collar clearance.  What's the alternative?  To not machine sufficient clearance in the rocker boxes for the valve spring collars?  To funny....   :D

I am surprised black is the only engine color available.  One of these dropped in streetglide would definitely be a runner with the right tune, for a lot less than a CVO streetglide.  What are the odds we will see this engine factory installed at some point?

If I were going to buy a crate engine, it would SO be an S&S 124 LC, in CVO GRANITE... with a two-year warranty!

I agree with that, just did the 124 HC in my '04 seeg.  Part of the reason was it was available in silver.  Price was just a few hundred more than the 120, and that was with the HPI TB and injectors.  That said , I can still see quite a few going with the 120 ST, as they maintain their factory warranty.  The 124 crate also made a bunch more power than the 120 ST advertises, but I think it would do better than advertised in the hands of a good tuner.

I'm getting that 117 lbs./ft. of torque from my 110 with just a 2 into 1 Dragula 2 and tune. OK, I'm making 9 less hp, but I bet I spent a lot less than the cost of that engine.

I've done more than that, but I have no idea what Honey Badger makes, and I don't really care. My BUTT dyno tells me she's all I really need...

Will this become the OE motor in the CVO lineup in 2016 or 2017?   Just like how the 110 replaced the 103 in 2007.

With Indian running a 111 in everything but the scout in 2015, MOCO needs to step it up a notch....

It says "49 state, '15 later touring models..."  Did something change with the 15 frame?

Go ahead and flame but I think you guys that buy a 120 are nuts. Are you assuming Harley fixed all the issues that the 110 has? If you are planning on running it hard will you fix the crank ahead of time? I bought the 124 and never looked back. Now S&S has and even bigger engine. I can understand if you take the 110 and rebuild it so you can fix the issues and I have done that. But I still like the 124 better
